Your body is the only one you will ever have. You may make changes, repairs, updates, and so-called upgrades, but it is inherently yours for all time. That is why you need to take good care of it so you can live a long and full life. Continue reading for some easy-to-accomplish tips on how you can take care of your body both now and in the future.
Take Care of Your Skin
Your skin is the largest organ in, or in this case on, your body. As such you need to take extra care to take care of it. Since it is exposed to the elements throughout your life, skin succumbs and changes, often more than you would like.
Luckily, there are many things you can do to take care of your skin once you understand the causes of damaged skin. Even if you have lived years of your life as a worshipper of the sun, you can still change your ways. Try some of these important things to help your skin stay healthy.
- See a dermatologist annually for a full-body skin check. They will give you a full inspection from head to toe to look for new freckles, moles, or spots that have changed over time. If you notice anything in between visits, schedule another appointment, just in case.
- Always wear sunscreen, no matter what, and regardless of the weather. The sun’s rays, whether UVA or UVB, can still shine through any cloud cover. Even if you are driving in a car or working at your desk remotely from home, the sun’s rays can come through the windows.
- Wash your face at night before you go to bed. If you wear makeup, heavy lotions, or the aforementioned sunscreen, it is best to thoroughly clean it off of your face before falling asleep. As a bonus, you will sleep better when you feel fresh and clean. Apply a bedtime lotion to help soothe your skin before turning in for the night.
- Wear a hat whenever you can. There are so many styles of hats that you are sure to find one that is appropriately suited for whatever occasion you happen upon. Baseball caps are good for all manner of sports and outdoor activities. They serve well on bad hair days, too. Packable straw hats are the perfect and easiest coverup for your next vacation.
Pay Attention to Your Feet
Your feet carry a heavy load every day. They help balance you while walking and standing and lift you on your toes to reach things on the top of the shelf. Feet are an important and yet often overlooked part of your body. When your tootsies begin to hurt, you will take notice right away. Luckily, there are some things you can do to take action and take care.
Give your feet extra attention by keeping up with routine maintenance and care. Keep your toenails trimmed and clean to prevent nail pain and dirt build-up. Always clean your manicure set after every use and before storing it away. This will help prevent the spread of bacteria and unsightly fungus that may occur if allowed to fester on your tools.
When you schedule your next massage, be sure to request special attention for your feet. Reflexology is a form of alternative medical healing that involves pressure on specific points in your body, including your feet. Alternatively, book a special reflexology session with your nail aesthetician during your next mani-pedi session. Also, ask them to focus on callous and cuticle removal to have your feet looking their best regardless of the season. You will come away feeling more relaxed and centered while your feet will feel great.
Finally, take a good look at your shoes. If you feel pain every time you put on a certain pair of shoes, it is time to reconsider their value in your life. Do not actually look at the purchase receipt. Instead, think about the discomfort you feel while wearing them and how that can be eliminated simply by purchasing a better pair of shoes. And, you can buy the latest shoe styles, so it’s a win.
Get Enough Rest
Sleep is ever important, and yet it is oftentimes elusive. How much sleep your body requires is dependent on your age and activity level. In your younger years, you needed much more shut-eye than in your middle years, and then in your golden years, the sleep comes and goes in the form of small naps during the day and some shorter slumbers at night.
If you partake in strenuous athletic activities, your body needs uninterrupted sleep to help repair your muscles and your body overall. Your brain requires sleep to function properly and maintain health. You remember more and forget less after a restful night’s sleep. If you have watched children grow, you may have remarked how they seem to have grown overnight. That is because their time, and yours, during a proper length of sleep, is a time when bodies grow, change, develop, and repair. If you do not get enough sleep, it can lead to long-term health problems.
In an effort to help you get to sleep and stay in a state of REM sleep, try this fun little activity called cricket feet. It is an unusual form of self-soothing in which you rub your feet together until you fall asleep. If you are wondering about its effectiveness, you might as well give it a try.
