Saggy or droopy eyelids might seem more like a cosmetic concern or nuisance than a health issue, and most often, it is. However, blepharoptosis or ptosis (drooping eyelids) can limit your field of vision and lead to neck pains or headaches.

In addition, droopy eyelids can cause amblyopia (lazy eye) and sometimes even long-term vision loss in young children. Although plastic surgery is the standard route to treat droopy eyelids, especially when it is affecting your ability to see, there are other methods that you can use to overcome it.

Let’s find out what these methods are.

Injections

Injecting products containing botulinum toxins like Dysport can help tighten sagging skin and reduce wrinkles around your eyes. This product works to correct your eyelid issues associated with muscle weakening in the crow’s feet around your eye. And it would give you a more youthful look when smiling.

Fillers

There is not much that you can do for the upper eyelid skin. However, fillers can be placed in the lower eyelid tear trough. This would give the eyes a more rested appearance. Additionally, performing a laser procedure underneath your eyelid can tighten the skin.

Surgery

For medical cases of ptosis, you would need resection of the muscle; this is usually for mild cases. In some moderate eyelid surgery cases (blepharoplasty and other procedures), the surgeon might perform a primary eyelid shortening.

In severe cases, doctors might recommend you perform an eyebrow lift. For instance, if you have excess skin and you visit eyelid surgery by Dr. Bloom, the surgeon would remove a small amount of your lower lids.

However, it would be best if you understood that removing this skin might not necessarily treat the underlying bags or laxity under your eye. This skin removal usually only treats only part of the problem.

Botox

Botox is a common medication that is used to smooth the wrinkles on your face. However, you can use the pull and push of muscles to create a brow lift that would give your brow a more rested appearance. As a nonsurgical means, you can use botox to elevate the brow.

Use Chamomile Tea Bags

Chamomile is a natural anti-inflammatory. It is suitable for baggy eyelids and helps strengthen your skin. You can reduce saggy or puffy eyelids by applying chamomile tea bags to your eyelids.

First, you need to steep two bags in hot water. Then, cool it in your refrigerator for about 15 to 30 minutes. Finally, the bags should be placed over your eyes for about 30 minutes when chilled.

After that, remove the tea bags, then lay with your eyes closed for an additional 25 minutes. The anti-inflammatory properties in the tea would strengthen the skin around your eyes and curb puffiness and swelling.

That’s A Wrap

Droopy eyelids are pretty standard. They are often caused by gradual aging, and you can strengthen them through several natural means.

If the droops are more severe or suddenly come, maybe due to injury, Botox, disease, or injections. There are several medical treatments that you can try, including surgery.
